‘Simple Joys’ showcases Paulina Constancia’s artistic explorations between the years 1995 and 2003. Among the medium used in this collection are the following: mixed media on canvas and kitchen cabinet faces, hand painted ceramic tiles, welded found metals, painted quilts and poetry.
Overall, the images Paulina creates revolve around a world where man and nature harmoniously co-exist. There is mutual respect, cooperation and a joyful sense of connectedness.
Paulina Constancia has exhibited her art in the US, Canada, Mexico and the Netherlands. Her works have been featured in numerous publications including the Asia-Pacific Edition of Reader’s Digest. Many of her works have found their place in distinguished collections in the Philippines and around the world.
Here are what some writers have to say: “Her art visually yells of eureka, exposing a playful environment of Utopian dimensions and dream-like shambhala where people, plants and animals mingle together without inhibitions enjoying nature’s composite wonders (Ritchie Quijano/Sunstar)”. “Her colors are so vivid that you half-expect them to jump out of the frame and drag you into a tropical bacchanalia (Sunday Inquirer).”
Paulina Constancia’s art has been described as “folk”, “naïf”, and “iconographic”. Often times her work carries a narrative quality. She considers herself a folk/naif artist and a storyteller. She wants to deliver a message of love, hope and simple joys wherever she goes. Her art continues to evolve as she travels and experiences different cultures.
The good news that Paulina wants to share with the public is that this ideal existence that she portrays in her art can certainly be made real with a little guidance, thanks to permaculture (sustainable agriculture/living). The artist says we all have a lot to learn from Mother Nature’s patterns and relational dynamics.
